  1. Dear Mr. Sam Ovar:

    thanks for yesterday's invite
    enjoyed the afternoon tete-a-tete
    over your delicious tea
    by the sea.

    Sincerely,
    see you again soon

  2. Dear Russian Samovar:

I must complain about the food last night served at your otherwise fine establishment. I ordered Eggplant ala Russe and I received halved egg on toast covered with Russian dressing. While this may past the mustard in Middle America, this will not do in Midtown Manhattan. When I complained to the waiter, he threw vodka in my face and chased me around the restaurant yelling “Американская свинья" while trying to light the vodka on fire. It reminded me of nights in Leningrad many years ago. Good times.

But I insist your chef learns to make decent Eggplant ala Russe.

    Your sincerely,
    Nigel T. Glass

  3. Let's start a story...

Once upon a time, Boris, a faithful soldier to his majesty the tsar Nicolaï, was wandering on Moscow streets, wondering where he could find at this time of the night a place where he could warm up his hands and feet. The only thing he wanted to have actually was a very hot tea out of a samovar thinking this would make his evening....

  4. It was the night before Christmas. Boris thought he would have a better chance to get that hot cup of tea if he sent a letter to Santa...(tsar Nicolai had other fish to fry in another kind of kettle)

    Dear Santa,

I'm cold in Moscow ~ which is not as nice as warm in Warsaw. Please sent me a copper samovar ~ so I can savor ~ a cup of hot tea ~ sweetened with honey.
I've been good this year ~ I've listened to orders ~ and I've not killed anywhere near ~ my target number on the Polish borders.

Hoping this letter finds you well and busy.

Boris, Captain of the Russian army.

  5. Santa got this letter and said to himself, I'd better reply to that poor lad who's freezing cold whereas his boss is enjoying a big reception at the Ermitage with a nice open fire and good food.

    Dear Boris,

I acknowledge receipt of your letter. I'm deeply sorry you can't find a place in Moscow where you could feel warm and comfortable.

I promise I'll do my best to deliver tonight a samovar. I've heard about a sort of competitor who in this time of the year is really busy fulfilling wishes. That company is called StNicolas-Xpress-Delivery. Please make sure to be at midnight around Red Square. I can't promise though that it will be a copper samovar but....
