  1. You know, I swear I read that quote as "The grey-ey'd mom smiles on the frowning night". I thought, "Hold on, the word mom didn't exist in Shakespeare's time!" Then I thought, "I bet there were semainiers in his day though."

Which led me to conceive of a grey-eyed mom stacking her teenage boy's semainier with everything he needed for his week. Let's see, what would have existed in Shakespeare's time?

School uniform (too small) - check
    Socks (boys', smelly) - check
    Football (kit, muddy) - check
    Baggy trousers - check
Items no self-respecting boy would be seen dead in - check
Baseball cap (worn back to front) - aha! NO. (Cap yes, but could be worn any way round).

Grey ey'd mom smiles, sighs, and closes the semainier for another week.

  2. The grey-ey'd morn smiles on the frowning night,
Chequering the eastern clouds with streaks of light.
And all the clothes within her semainier
are hither gather'd for their premiere.
The bride thus start'd on connubial course
Little thinks it may just end in a - divorce!

  3. "The grey-ey'd morn smiles on the frowning night,
Chequering the eastern clouds with streaks of light."
    Forthcoming is the mighty sun,
With all the deeds that must be done.
Dutiful mothers help the youngest ones,
    Girls of manner, scholarly sons.

Children's chosen attire from the semainier,
Clothes for work, clothes for play.
They dress in such a hurried state.
What surprises in the day await?
A wealth of lessons for them to learn
Bountiful pages in books to turn

When the men return unto their home
They shan't want to be alone
    Expressing then the day's events
What was chosen from what was meant
Was this day from life well spent?
For fast this day, it came and went.
