The doctor ordered a tincture to soothe my fevered brow during illness - sadaly I misheard him, and I thought he said "cincture". I'm wearing a very tight belt around my waist and now I feel sick.
ReplyDeleteNo lunch for me today.
Having just read about Hercules' 9th I'm left thinking that the only person to come out of that mess with any dignity was poor Hip-POLLY-tee (With dignity, but dead.)
ReplyDeleteEurystheus set the whole sorry story in motion for the sake of a fashion accessory for his (no doubt spoiled) daughter.
Hera caused more trouble than she avoided by working the Amazons up into a frenzy.
The Amazons let themselves be taken in by a slick-tongued goddess.
And Hercules killed Hippolyta for no good reason at all as far as I can see.
For her part Hippolyta offered no violence to the Greeks, and even promised to give Hercules her Cincture (Ha! Got in the WOTD :) ) And to add insult to injury the poor woman now has a mass of people calling her Hip-POLLY-tee. (A hip parrot on a T-shirt?!)
I dunno. What's the world coming to?
What is the world coming to? It gets worse.
ReplyDeleteThe last I heard, Hippolyte was transformed into a low fat recipe invented by a group of Greek fanatics worried about their Herculean cinctures. No more retsina and baklava for them. There's even a book coming out next month: "Hippolyte's Gurgle" Talk about bad taste!A reactionary few are rising against this worrying trend and have started a blog: www.bummerbund.blogSTOP.com
