  1. "You've been hoofed by an army of crickets?" asked Hercule while chopping a few 'poireaux' for his famous Belgian waterzooi.
"Yes, my leonine instincts told me to run but it was too late. I got stuck in a bug soup and almost died. Are you going to help me find them?" replied Agatha Maple, all sugar and seduction.

  2. “An army of deer would be more formidable commanded by a lion, than a an army of lions commanded by a stag.”

Whoever wrote that, has clearly not seen a stag in full bellowing, charging, horned, rutting mode!

Let's look at the proposition. An army of deer, with a lion in charge? Well, that would very soon become an army of deer with one fewer in their ranks. Numerically that would not be a disaster perhaps, but their commanding officer snoozing off the effects of his free meal would be.

An army of lions commanded by a stag? Well, they would ROAR and BELLOW their way to victory if nothing else - it would put the fear of God into any opponents who strayed into hearing distance. Of course, one of the lions might take a fancy to a meal of stag, but once he put his horns down and charged, that lion would very probably have second thoughts and show a lot of respect to his commander from then on.

"Hoofed animals are not the helpless ungulates they are sometimes thought to be" (Tidverb)
