  4. Until today I always thought a ferrule was a metal stick like the one my old biology teacher used to keep order in his class. We were an unruly lot and when the noise level became too great he would take this short iron rod he had and slam it on his desk - an audible interrobang.

    Picture my disappointment to discover just now that a ferrule is not an iron ruler but a crimped ring!
